Can anyone tell me~what would be the best way to move my SW? I'm moving this week (unexpectedly) I'm only going across town.

Its the 8 gallon tank? Get a few 5 gallon buckets with lids drain the water into them put the rock in one, the fish and corals in the other and move it across town. Leave the sand in the bottom.
Good luck with move. Hope I am providing some good info in chat box!
Make sure you have extra water on hand. Siphon the water from the tank before you move any rocks. This will keep stirring the sand to a minimum. Your corals will be fine for this short period of time. Siphon the water as low as you can. Remove fish at this point. I would simply cup them in your hand. The last 2 inches should be siphoned into a separate container and discarded. Then remove all corals and rock and place in a bucket of tank water. If you leave too much water in the tank the sand bed will create a mud puddle. As long as your sand is damp there will be little loss of cryptic life. When you get to your new home place the rock in the tank prior to filling it. When you get ready to fill the tank take a small dish and place it in the bottom of your tank. In your nano you may want to use a small tea cup although a saucer would be better. Pour the water slowly over the dish so you don't stir your sand bed. Let the water slowly overflow the dish and you will get very little clouding of your water. Replace the discarded water with fresh salt water. Check your salinity. Enjoy your new home!![]()
Thanks much guys! I'm still *scared* of moving it~but ya'll have eased my mind a lot.
Moved a running 125g 45 miles last december with 5g buckets, bags and shipping boxes, even took enough water for temporary startup, zero loss. Its not as scary as it sounds. Just keep your test kits handy when you move it and a couple water changes. Being a 8g you could put the entire contents in a rubbermaid tote, move it, restart with all the same water, do water change, live happily ever after.
miz your biggest issue will be keeping everything up to temp especialy where you live
make sure you minimize the time it is out side and make sure everything goes into a warm car or truck if you can use a larger cooler to transport everything
I have been reefing from 08-2007 till 5-2011
reef tanks are like wifes you have to give them some attention every now and then
Well the move went well~tank an all made it without a hitch~did a lot of cleaning on the LR~couldn't believe how much algae I was able to remove~looks as if it'll grow back though. No coral loss at all~Woot Woot!!
Thanks everyone for all the advise~came in handy for my first move.
Was just thinking about you and your move...
Glad to hear all went well so far. As joefish stated, keep an eye on your water parameters for a couple weeks, just to be safe.
All is still well~got my internet up an running~my pups are ever so comfortable as am I~lost a few house plants to da freeze~life is good!!!
