I finally got my protein skimmer, andI was so excited until I realized that it wouldn't fit. Many of you know that I have my tank on a counter top inthe kitchen... before I ordered I had measured the clearance of the above cabinet and compared it to the skimmer measurements I found online. It was going to be a perfect match...
It is actually about a 1/16" too tall - ARG! Just to the right of the counter is a built in deskthat is 4" lower. I would like to move the tank over to the desk, but I am unsure of the best way to do it.I don't want to risk breaking the tank by moving it with too much stuff in it, but if I have to empty it I am afraid of injuring the anemone, who is attached insidea cave made up of three separate rocks.
I would drain some of the water out of it and get what rocks you can out. this will lighten the load and then gently move it over . you man want to use 2 people to do it. but you should be allright. doesnt sound like you have too far to move. Just nice and easy you should get her no problem
good luck!!1

Thanks, Greg! No, it's not far at all to move, but I am a bit nervous about moving it still!
I hope this will help explain my concerns...
This is a basic representation of how the rocks are arranged:
The anemone is spread between rocks 1, 2, & 5, and the xenia is spreadover the tops of rocks 2 & 3.
This pic shows where the tank is now and the desk to the right where I want to move it:
The little curtain area under the desk (where a chair would go) hides my water buckets! I've gotthree 5 gallon jugs under there!
Nice tank, its not too heavy being a 10gal,just drain it 3/4 and have a friend assist u moving it.Re-fill it and your done.I wouldn't even move anything(coral/fish/rock) out
unless its a real unstable piece of rock/coral.It wont hurt any of your livestock to have it out of water for a few minutes
Your tank only weights around 100 lb when it is full. If you drain down 3/4 as suggested above it should an easy move for two people, maybe in even one. I would leave the rocks, if they are sturdy and will survive the move.
I would also save the water you take out in a bucket and place your heater in there too. That way you won't have to worry about stressing out the fish any more then needed.
mine is supportive to a point but with the following zoo includeing kids and work its kind of cramped
2 dogs
2 indoor cats
2 in/out cats
75 gal fish tank
1 hamster
2 boys here
2 weekend boys(when they want to)
and my extra activities(fireman)
Quating a movie"time is a luxury i rarely have"
sweetpea, you should have no problem with the move. Just like we stated above just drain some of the water and its just a quick "scoot" 3 feet to the right and your home free
