    Default My 29 any advice

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated
    I have a 29g high glass (23h-23l-12w) with glass top cut to fit accessories.

    Penguin biowheel 150 without the wheel

    prizum skimmer on from 7am til 7pm

    170 gph pump for water movement, mounted at top of tank at slight
    angle down, flow from right to left as you look at the tank.
    on from 7am til 7pm

    heater stick, temp stays between 74-80

    2 inchs sand and approx. 20lbs of fiji live rock

    coralife aqualight 1 65 watt 10,000k fluoresent, 165 watt actint both on from
    7am till 7pm and actint is also on only from 5am, and from 7pm till 9pm to
    simulate morning, and night, and a moon light from 9pm till 5am.

    1 green brittle star

    11 scarlet hermits

    6 nassau snails

    4 margarita snails

    2 false perculas

    1 orchid dottyback

    1 cheveron tang

    some hairy shroons

    small frag of hammer

    Run the skimmer all the time or only at night .Not only during the day.

    The skimmer will yield better results if running 24x7. As for the lighting, having the actinics only before and after the daylights is always a good idea, however don't turn them off during the photoperiod. Have them come on an hour or two before the daylights and only off and hour or two after the dayslights... they do provide some very much needed lighting for your coral that the 10K PC alone cannot provide in the shorter wavelengths.

    This will also help increase the life of the tubes. There is a lot of evidence to suggest that flourescents are much like halides in the respect of the life expextancy being proportional to the number of times they are fired, running time has less of an effect so long as they have good ventilation and do not overheat.

    suggestion too, get the tang out of the tank, that is too small a tank for a tang. it will out grow that tank very very quick.

    may have not explained to well actint is on with the 10,000k also, as for the tang he is great and will be moved to a 110 or better when the time is right.

    Another is id get the Bio-wheel out are at least the Bio filter part
    And add another pump to the other side to increase your flow

    there is no biowheel and I agree about the water flow. though its good I would like to change it up.
