If you tank is new it will turn brown next!!! How old is your tank?? Tell me a little about your set up.
Does water always taste like salt and poo????
my 55g is about a year old i have a sea clone skimmer 3 power heads a sensor heater 50lbs of LR 50LB live sand no sump let me know if u need more about my tank

Any chance of a pic??? At first I guess I just figured it was the start of a diatom bloom (and it may still be), but that is generally associated with new tanks. Is the grey over the whole tank or just spots???

well in big spots but its under from the top sand cuz im doing my maintenance on the tank today mix the sand and i seen that it is all grey with some brown in too

If it's under the surface of the sand, that's normal. That's the anaerobic area of your sand bed that is full of beneficial bacteria and stuff. It's generally not a good idea to stir it up.
I'll occasionally put some rocks out of my tank that have been buried in the sand for a while and they're almost black.
120G Reef and 40B reef at work, 120G tank dry and dirty in the garage.
i have rock like that too almost blk..ok ty perpetual.. and yea its under
so it ok then?
chris
all right ty guys for the info back to my maintenance
