Good morning to all! Wow I'm having such a hard time getting around the site and trying to see where I can write something or ask a question I guess it just takes time to look around man I stink at computers....hopefully I'll be much better at reef keeping lol. I am setting up a 200 gallon 48x30x30H with built in high volume overflow box. Ecosystem miracle mud refugium filter media. I was told from the person building my tank that this was a good set up for what I want to keep in my tank. I want to keep coral, inverts and fish. I am having a difficult time trying to pick the right lighting and the right skimmer. I have read and looked up a lot on the internet and there are so many chooses and so many different reviews. If anyone has any advise please I would be greatfull! Thank u

    Welcome!

Lighting is very subjective and also directly related to the type of corals and inverts you plan to keep and at what depth you wish to keep them. Skimmers.....well.....that's another thing all together however if it were me and I had to do it over again, I would have gone with a super reef octopus. For a tank your size, maybe look toward a bubble king....or SRO.....all good equipment.

Good advice ! One issue you have with lighting is how deep your tank is.30 " is pretty deep. If your willing to do the homework just jump into it and get LED's. they will be able to penetrate the deep depth very well. I personally would not suggest the fuge mud. Actually I would recommend no sand bed at all. It is my personal experience that all sand beds in the fuge does store on wanted waste and trace elements. Just stuff that chamber with rock and rubble. It will filter your water well and give your copepods plenty of nooks and cranny's to live and reproduce in. Also please have him install a filter sock on the return to the fuge. This is probably one of the easiest ways to have good success. As far as skimmers go the bubble king skimmer is expensive but worth it. I am bias tho because I run two of them. I have never seen a better skimmer. The second choice I would suggest is the ATI dc driven skimmer or better the vertex series which is designed by royal exclusive (they make bubble kings) but made by them in china. Good luck and welcome to CR ! I would suggest you spend sometime in members tank section see what people are doing!

Here is a link to my build thread, just click on it and you will go directly to it. I tried to show step by step how to set up a system it might be helpful.

Just when I thought I was out she pulled me back in
