    Default Help!!! Emergency !!!

will chaeto poisen my dog? I was redoing my sump and I had all of the chaeto out my sump in a bucket and my stupid (right now anyways) dog ate it. He ate all but a small hand full of it!!! YUCK. I think he ate a few snails that were in there too. I can't imagine he would like the taste....salty? It must taste like pickles, lol. That's his favorite people feed. So what should I do now? I can't imagine poison controle having that information. We just got this dog about a week ago and I'm very worried. He doesn't act poisoned, so that's a good thing. Please help if you can.

I imagine that the pooch will be fine, just keep an eye on him. Might have an upset tummy. When did he eat it? You could always try to induce vomitting with some salt if you're really worried. My parents had to do that when one of their dogs ate some poisonous house plants. I think they used a tablespoon or so of salt to make the dog throw up.

Thank you!!! I would think he's throw up just from the salt water the Chaeto was in. eeewww so gross to think what was in the chaeto.Iw was in my sump and I didn't clean the sump this week because I knew I had to tear it apartto make room for my new skimmer. No doggie kisses from him today; ) I will try the teaspoon of salt.

On a side note..... Anyone have any extra chaeto? I HAD a sump full.....now I need some ; )
    Thanks, Angie

I can send you some. I've got too much in my sump. Not sure how well it would ship in the winter though. Maybe I could send it next week so it doesn't sit on a truck all weekend? It should only take a day or two priority mail from SE WI.

Dogs will anything once, twice if they weren't sure if they did or didn;t like it the first time... I doubt it will do him any harm other than like Eric mentioned, an supset tummy. Thinned out our chaeto pretty good here last week or so.... but if push comes to shove let me know and I'll dig you out some more, since it grows like mad for me anyhows it won't hurt anything. And it won't take any shipping, think we are only 20 mins apart.

The only real concerns may be chemicals produced due to chemical warfares between corals(toxins). However, if you're not seeing the effects by now, the mutt should be fine(the vast majority of toxins produced are fast-acting vasoconstrictors)... Heart attack-type symptoms would be seen. Another side effect could be bacterial infections... IMO, get a hold of your vet for a possible antibiotic treatment just for preventive reasons.
There's nowhere else I'ld rather be... unless, of course, you're buying

i think i would still call poison control to see what they say about it just in case, or at least a vet. what kind of dog do you have? you would be amazed on what you can find in their stomachs. lol one time at my work we pulled a couple thongs out of a labs stomach. lol when the owner came to get the dog we showed her what was inside her little guy and she said to us "those aren't mine". well i think you guys can guess the rest of it. hope everything works out.
