Default Plants in a reef aquarium?

Is it a good Idea to have a few plants with your reef? I was thinking of something that would hide some of the plumbing and wiring in the tank. I know that a lot of people put some type of plant in their fuges but I can't have a sump at this time. Any thoughts or ideas?

I have variety of macros (caelpra) in my main tank. Originally I added them by choice because I thought it was cool. At this point they are more of a pain. They are invasive and grow very fast. I prune them back by hand about every two weeks so they don't over run the tank. I am hoping to get a tang soon in hopes of keeping a handle on it. I still like it the looks of it, but competes for the same light and nutrients as the corals. If you are going to add some macro, I would go with Halimeda. I don't believe it is so invasive.
