    Default Preferred Salt Mix

It seems I read a tread a while back that folks discussed which Salt Mix they Preferred. I can not seem to find the thread when I search so...

It is time for me to buy another bucket and I was wondering what folks were using. I have been using Kent and have not had any issue. My local area is limited to Instant Ocean, Oceanic, and Kent. I believe they had a new brand last time I was there but I can't seem to recall the brand.

    What is your preference?

I've been hearing amazing things about the ESV salts. Currently I am using Reef Crystals with no issues.

If your not having any issues, why worry?

if I were you I would continue with the same less chance of causing issues due to different values in the salts and if you are running a reef kent or oceanic are probably your best bets for ca alk and mg levels
I have been reefing from 08-2007 till 5-2011

I have tried RC, Redsea, Marin, and IO. I like RC the most seems my corals like it too, they look "happier" with RC.

    ESV!, ESV!, ESV!

Its the best salt we at Cherry Corals have ever used and since none of the brick and mortar stores have decided to carry it we have decided to stock it.

This salt combined with the Fauna Marin products have been soooo good to us!

I've always used Reef Crystals - It's worked well and seems very consistent allowing me to fine tune using 2-part and kalk/ATO

Anyone have any numbers when you mix a batch up: Ca/Mag/Alk? I was interested in the ESV also.

I know this is an old thread, but worth keeping alive. I just ordered some ESV salt. I will post my findings however I can tell you that I understand you can be somewhat of a "chef" when it comes to mixing this salt. If you desire to keep specific levels in your system, you can alter the quantity of the components somewhat to achieve a specific set of parameters.

I was attracted to the salt partly for this reason, but also for the simply fact that I no longer would have to prepare salt and let it sit for a day or so prior to a WC. Since I do about 5 gal changes weekly in my 34 g system, this seems more appealing to me considering I won't clutter the laundry room and get the stink eye from the wife. Further, I have not heard, or read anything bad about it.

Currently, I use Reef Crystals. Things have been ok however I get heavy yellow crap at the bottom of the mixing buckets every time I mix salt. It's nasty and no matter how slowly I add salt, this still appears. Params have been similar each time I mix. Testing of mixed water shows values of 400-430 Ca, 1400-1440 Mag, and 7.4-12 dKH with RC. I would like to get more consistency with these values and hope that ESV will get me there.
