Just a tank, heater and something to to move water.
Does water always taste like salt and poo????
o ok ty jojo.. what about a filtration sys do i need?
chris
none. just test your water very often. if you use carbon it will remove your meds and if you use non reef safe meds they will probably kill your bio filter so it is pointless. You could use an empty HOB filter or powerhead to move water.

ty jojo o and do i need to put a sand bed or some lr in there?
chris
i wouldn't the meds could kill anything in the sand bed or live rock, you just need to give the fish something to hide in

It is really nice to see you here in this thread. While your online how about you go over to the TOTM thread and enter or vote. It will only take a minute
The best way I have found to do a quarantine tank is to have just a couple pieces of coral (skeleton, dead) for the fish to be able to hide behind. Use an external filter with no charcoal just filter padding. The sub-straight I use oyster shell about 2" deep with about 1" of regular sand and nothing else. Plus it helps the fish to not have the tank lights on unless you are working with the tank or adding meds.

My QT tank has a heater, thermometer, and a HOB filter. I put in a couple of sections of 2" & 3" PVC pipes for hiding places. Some of the fish actually hid UNDER the pvc... not exactly what I had expected, but they seemed to like it under there.
Test frequently and do water changes as necessary. That's it!
(You could also run a HOB filter with a sponge in it on another tank for a couple of weeks to build up good bacteria and then move it over to the QT tank when you bring your fish home.)
I also use heater, thermometer check ph and all the other tests, I run my hospital tank also at a lower temp about 72 to 73. I my canister filter I don't use any charcoal when I have a sick fish in the tank but I also always have to blue damsels in the tank to keep the filtering system working correctly.
