    Default red algae???

Yesterday on my live rock, I noticed red growth on it. It is hard and does not rub off. It is a rust red color. It is not the purple algae. Also I noticed my trumpet coral having a long brown thin ribbon coming out of its center. Is this normal? I do not have access to a digital camera to give you photos. My tank has been in existence since 10-05. It is a 60 gallon tank.

The brown "ribbon" coming out of the trumpet sounds like it's expelling waste. As for the red algae, there is a red corraline type. Does it look like this?
