    Default Refugium size

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I'm planning on a reef tank in a tight spot. I have a 75 gallon tank. I only have room for a ten gallon sump/refugium. I'm planning on running a hang on seaclone skimmer. I am also planning on using my two 404 fluval filters. The first will draw from the tank. I will use live rubble rock only in his filter. this will feed into the refugium. Refugium will have a mud layer and three eggcrate removable plate to hold algae. the outflow will be the second 404 that will have live rock and carbon. I realize that flow may be a little low but with the use of powerheads I should be able to get good water movement. The tank itself will have a sand/aragonite substrate with around 2lbs of live rock/gal.Any feed back would be appreciated.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

The best way to look at it is that any addition to the total water column so long as it is in constant motion will benifit your overall system health.

Never having used the canister filters, any idea of what the flow rate is from them? I'd be inclined to think the one drawing from the tank will pull more than the one returning water back to the tank since they would be in an open loop instead of a closed configuration.

Be sure to let us know how this works out, sounds like a good use if the cans.

The Fluval 404 runs at 340 gph. I have heard lots of bad things about the seaclone skimmer after I bought it. But I found that it will work decent if you get a wood airston and put it down the side. just drill a hole in the top.

The seaclone is working great. It took a little tweaking to get the right air flow, but no complaints. I wound up scrapping the fluvals because they are just not rugged enough. Mine quit very soon after it was put into the system. I went to a Mag 90 pump. More vibration but good.
