    Default My next question.... corals.

Alright, I've inquired about tanks, and was kinda instructed to decide on which corals i wanted to put in my tank. I really don't know which ones fit into which catagory (softies, etc...) but, I'm going to list, in my next post, the ones that I've found online that appear to be great eye-candy to me! I know I can't have all of these, but they're just the ones that I've found so far that I've liked. Also, The tank size that I've decided on is a 75g rectangle.

If you all could, let me know if there are any conficts that exist between corals that are similar to those of fish that aren't compatable with each other.

    Christmas Tree Coral
    Carnations Red/Orange
    Distichopora - Purple - I know these require HM's.
    Elegant Coral
    Fine Grape Coral
    Fox Coral
    Frogspawn Coral
    Galaxea Coral
    Goniopora - Yellow
    Hammer Coral
    Hard Tube Coco Worm
    Leather - Devil's Hand
    Leather - Stubby Finger
    Leather - Toadstool
    Mushroom Coral - Blue Spotted
    Mushroom Coral - Blue Stripe
    Mushroom Coral - Fuzzy Grass
Mushroom Coral - Striped Green Metallic
    Mushroom Polyp - Green Ricordea
    Mushroom Polyp - Orange Ricordea
    Mushroom Polyp - Umbrella
    Pagoda Cup - Colored
    Plate Coral - Green
Plate Coral - Green Long Tentacle
    Plate Coral - Neon Green
Plate Coral - Pink Long Tentacle
    Sun Coral - Orange
    Torch Coral
    and a few zoos!

    Thanks in advance,

    Iconz

Bobby, I think he was asking if there is a coral compatibilty chart like the fish one.

There's really not a compatility issue persa but some corals require a certain environment while others require a totally different one.

    Nix the.....
    • goniopora
    • Christmas Tree
    • carnation
    • Galaxea
    • Distichopora (lace coral).
    • elegant

    What's a fine grape coral?

Sun Polyps (tubastrea) require hand feeding.

Now is probably the time for you to do a search on Allelopathy. It's when corals chemically fight in your tank. Leathers are horrible for this. They don't have to touch anything to kill a neighbour.

Fox corals can be rather difficult.

Plates need to be on the substrate... thought I throw that out there just in case you planned on getting ALL of those..... you'll run out of sand real estate quite fast!

OOOOH, my bad !! BTW some soft corals do release chemicals against each other. that is one reason for the high flow rate and a good skimmer. other than that ... most are compatible. read about each one BEFORE you buy it, because of things like this example ...

IMO, a galaxia coral should not be placed with anything directly around it or within 6". it has extremely long sweeper tenticles that extend at night and a severe stinging ability.

a lot of you corals can go in the same tank, it is more of a placement issue.

Thans to both of u for the responses! I've been doing some reading on Allelopathy, and will give you all an update as my current selection preference narrows!

EDIT: Here's a link to some Fine Grape Coral.

man, thats a frogspawn or torch (can really tell from the pic), but i think its frogspawn from looking at the skeletal structure. either way ... they have never done very well in my tanks (almost died) under only PC's.

here is my frogspawn under VHO's (keep in mind there are different colors) ...

    Attachment 3077

i couldn't tell from the pic if it was one of these or the other in this pic ...

    Attachment 3078

the color looked like the torch, but the skeletal structure doesn't, so i am leaning towards frogspawn.
OOOPs ... i had the picks in the wrong order !!
