Default RO / DI is it really nessasary ?

I am currently in the beginning stage of setting up a 125 saltwater reef ready w/ a wet / dry filter as I am putting the final pieces together I have run into a stumbling block with the water issue.

I have installed a sediment filter on my water supply thinking that this would be enough filtration however everyone I have spoken to is saying I would strongly consider installing an RO or a DI system so my question to you is it very important at first to
go with a RO / DI system or store purified water or can I get by with my sediment filtered tap water? HELP ANYBODY !!!!!!

RO/DI(basically, completely stripped of everything, but H20) is the #1 way to go IMO!!! Purified still has a high TDS(total disolved solids) reading where RO/DI is low to none(under 2).

I agree with Repto! WET/DRY/FILTERS are nitrate producers!!!

Yep... just don't leave in the media that will be airborne with water running continuously over it(bio-balls, etc).

My last 55gal tank I used just tap water and the tank was completely GREEN with algae in a short amount of time. If you use RO/DI water you are eliminating most of the nutrients that hair/slime algae feed on. (I think!! Maybe somebody could verify this. I'm a newbie!)

#1 RODI is the way to go for the least problems

#2 The RO water from the store will work '' not as good '' but will work
But you have to lug the 5 Gal jugs to and from the store . Major pain in the @

#3 Tap water unless your one of the few that live weir the water is will
above average you will have a lot of problems with it.
