    Default sump question

Ive never had a "true" saltwater set up, Ive only had a fish only tank with a hang on back filter (I know) .
Since I couldn't decide between a fish only tank (because Ive always wanted a shark tank) and a reef tank Ive decided to do both! Im setting up a 55g for my reef and a 110g for my sharks (yay!!!). The question I have is if I can plumb them together with one sump, skimmer, pump etc.... The reef tank will be upstairs and the sump room will be in the basement with the FO tank in the basement as well. Is this a good idea or problems waiting to happen? I appreciate all the help.
    Thank you ~ Aaron

Yea, Im going to get a coral cat and I know it recommends a minimum of 180 gallon. The 110 I have is 6ft long so it should be fine for a year or so and with how compulsive I am, Im sure ill have a 300g by then. Worst case scenario I have a 180g set up now with cichlids that I could switch when that bridge comes.

And also, does anyone have any experience with coral or bamboo cats?

To answer your question, yes you can tie the tanks all into one system. I would use a different return pump for each though just incase. Its a larger undertaking to do what you have planned but it can be done.

edit you post a reply that kinda fixes what i had to say about ur sharks. a 6ft tank is a bit better but you will have to upgrade. Still you should only keep one.

i would go ahead and set up the 180 and put your cichlids in the 110 but ya you should instead make a 350-450g shark pond in your basement. ive seen some pretty cool ones made. and for shark info contact tropicorium as they breed corals, bamboos, smooth hounds, and more there and sell the babies.

Yea, I went to Tropicorium last week for the first time. That place is heaven on earth!!! And I do only plan on getting one. And that pond idea is a great one! I might do that in the future. And as far as return pumps, should I go as big as possible to create a lot of water movement or let the powerheads handle that part?

Ive been doing ALOT of reading on sharks and leaning towards not getting one. I may just do an "aggressive" tank with triggers, lions and wrasses. Those for the most part should co-exist correct???
