    Default Sump Return Question

I'm guessing but I thought that I would ask before I "ASSUME" a bad thing. When installing the return to main tank from the sump, do you just hang it on the back of the tank or is there something else that should be done to support the pipe? It will be about 4 feet of 1 inch pvc.

What does the actual return terminate at the tank with? At a bulkhead fitting or just a return spout going over the back? If the latter, some form of support would be a good idea.... might help keep the floor dry :p

It will just be a return over the back. When you say support do you mean to hold the pipe up and take the weight off of the fittings at the top or do you mean to hold it down to keep the over the back "hook" inside of the tank?

    Thanks

I was thinking more along the lines to prevent lateral movement of the return, do it can't fall over or something. Zipties work well.

So the weight of the pipe and water would not stress the connection enough to cause failure you think?

All of the pumps we use will be made of plastic, nylon, or some other space age material, the least amount of stress put on it the better the chances of not causing some sort of structual failure on the pump cover. Personally I use vinyl reinforced hose whenever possible.

I just build the sump return with 1" thinwall PVC,useing elbows to go up and over the top of the tank. The last fitting that's directed into the tank i use a 45 and don't glue it that way i can swivel it.Make sure to use a union right above the sump pump so you can remove the plumbing/pump making it easy to clean.
