Hi All,

I need a little help. I am in the process of testing all of the plumbing on my new 65 gallon AGA Mega-Flow tank. I set it up in the garage for a test run tonight. I hooked everything up, filled it with plain water and fired it up. About every 10 seconds there is this loud flushing sound and the water level in the internal overflow drops by several inches follwed by big surge of water and bubbles into the sump. The overflow refills and does it again. Any suggesting on how to stop this?

I used the AGA Mega-Flow plumbing kit as suggested. My return pump is an Ocean Runner 3500.

hey shad,
u can use a 90 degree elbow, you can drill and add a straw or tubing etc to make the water flow continuous. what overflow box do you have?

Ah ha!!! I figured it out. The Mega-Flow kit uses 1-1/4" drain hose and 3/4" return hose. The drain hose is to large. By restricting the drain with a valve the system equalizes and the flushing sound goes away. Everything is nice and quiet now. Seemed kind of odd to me to have such a differance in hose sizes.

Be sure to clean that valve every so often, I have one restricting the overflow on my 25g and it needs a good cleaning out every 3-4 months to keep it from further restricting flow and getting the floor wet.

You could easily replace the current overflow pipe with a Dursa stand pipe and that should cover your needs without using the valve.

I gave the Hofer Gurgle Buster a try today. It works pretty well and is easy to build. Very easy to adjust the flow to the sump too. No more "flushing" effect but I am still getting bubbles in my crash/input chamber of my sump. I would like to elimanate as many bubbles as possible. I am currently using 1 1/4 pipe for the input hose. Do you think if I reduced the hose size I could reduce the bubbles??

What you do is cut a piece of PVC (3 inch diameter should work) cut it so that it sticks out of the sump above the water line. Now cut notches out of the bottom so it is sitting on four legs. This will cause the bubbles inside the pipe to rise and the water will exit through the bottom.
