    Default Water level/Skimmer Box?

I've got a dilemma. My pre-skimmer box keeps draining I think due to the fluctuation in the tanks water level. I have my ATO pumping into my fuge, and the float is in the DT. So when the water level in the tank gets low the float activates the ATO.
How can I keep the tank water level even enough so it doesn't affect the skimmer box?

I still think a small hole drilled at minimum water level will ensure the box does not go dry.It sounds more to me that the pump can when conditions are right out perform the the box.Make sense ? I should say the skimmer pump is drawing more gph then the small skimmer box can deliver.By drilling a hole below the water line their will always be a min water level.Make sense???? Food for thought

Or possibly lower the box just a little.

If water level is fairly consistent in the pre-skimmer box and there's room, you could move your auto top off float to the box. This would enable it to detect and deliver a smaller volume of water as compared to monitoring your entire tank level.
