    Default What's going on here?

This is a picture of my RBTA from about three days ago and below is a picture from today. Notice the brown stuff coming from the mouth? This has been going on for a day now. I bought this specimen about three weeks ago and up until yesterday, I has been looking great. I was feeding chopped silversides about every third day (along with the brine shrimp for the other tank mates), but just found out from a friend that the size choppings that i was feeding it were too large. Could it be possible that it just puking up the pieces that were to big to digest? Never had an amenone before, so I dont know if this is normal or not. It doesn't seem to be getting slimmy, just the tenticales are all deflated and they fill back up every now and then, but not completely. I had noticed about a week ago that it was starting to move higher and higher in the tank, so I changed my 24w PCs out to a 70 watt HQI 14,000K. Also all of my other live stock is doing just fine (mated pair black ocellaris clowns, 5 blue leg hermits, fire shrimp, 5 turbo snails). And my ANN perameters are 0,0,5.

    Thanks for the help!!

    Dave

looks like it is getting ready to split to me

    also list all water params

I have seen many bta nems that once acclimated refuse to bubble up the tenticals

as for feeding too large of pieces I wouldn't worrie to much about it as if the nem actually took them in it would be fine but I would slow down feedings to about once a week

I agree on the bubbles, most of them don't bubble when they get established. It might be splitting but usually they duck into the rocks when they do. If you are pounding them with light they need very little, if any, feeding. Stop feeding it for awhile and make sure your water parameters are right, they do like very clean water.

Ok, a lot has taken place in a good way since I last posted, but my water parameters are:
    SG: 1.023
    Temp: 78.2
    Ph: 8.3
    Alk 12
    NH3: 0
    NO2: 0
    NO3: .5
    Phosphate: .5
    Calcium: 450
    Magnesium: 1450
    Iodine: .1

The only two parameters that I'm not too sure about are my strontium and oxygen levels. I've never really found a need to check these.

Anyway, since I last posted, the anemone did come back out and is a much lighter, nearly transparent and fresh looking shade of pink on its outer body. It was only open for a few minutes before it was time for the lights to go off, but it appeared to be more open than it was when I initially brought it home and all of the tentacles were bulbed up and really inflated. The clowns also seemed to be loving his much improved condition. The brown stuff that I mentioned before was gone, however there was a seemingly large pile of it on the substrate near the foot. I'll take a look in the morning and update with pictures.

Thanks for the help and will keep in touch.

Mouth was open earlier today; not so sure that it was gapping open. It seems to be doing great now, even with the lights off for several hours. What does expelling itself mean?

Okay so I found my answer in another thread on here. So apparently what I saw was it expelling itself, and probably due to a combination of the reasons I've been told (i.e. too much or too large portions of food). Well, now that it has expelled, it looks great, mush have just been working up to it. And I DID remove the waste from the tank, even before I was aware of what it was. Thanks again for the help, and I will still update with pics tomorrow.

    Thanks,
    Dave
