    Additional Information & Description

    Likelihood of melting: Extremely Low

Crown Royals are another one of those common giant palys like the Green Implosion (common green button polyp) that took on a name once someone was patient enough to give it lots of light until it colored up to become a beautiful swan. The Crown Royal starts out as a brown polyp. Then, the skirts take on a green color and the body develops a purple tone. Finally, the center becomes white, and then white with green. When they get to this point, they even look impressive when closed. The closed polyps become covered in a neon green color that glows under actinics or LEDs.

Don't give up on an ugly duckling.

These corals are truly impressive for their size and color. The polyps get to half dollar size or larger in the right conditions and the skirts can go on for miles when placed in decent current. I've found that the skirts can irritate other zoas placed too close. So, care should be taken with placement. Also, the speed at which they grow can make them a bit of an aggressive coral.

Interesting, but I think you are working with a different Crown Royale than the ones which are typically traded within the hobby. True Crown Royals are only at best pencil eraser size, and are definitely a zoa, not a paly. I'd love to aquire some of yours for comparison. Also would love to see some pictures with a coin for comparison. The largest polyps I've ever seen are P. grandis, and they get about that big, which is why I think you have a paly variety.
I collect PEs, and I'm always looking to trade for ones I don't have yet.

I used to have some of those...I called them mean joe greens. But I like your name better. lol

I sort of miss them after seeing your pic and write up...they were neat palys. I think I just decided they took up too much real estate when I downsized my tank and traded them in.

Yep, I would say those are indeed Crown Royals - you can see the obvious differences between those and the OP's. Nice polyp, out of Australia I believe.
