    Default Hydroids VS. Blue Hornets

Well Im a bit nervous, over the course of the past week I've noticed my Blue Hornet colony becoming more and more unhappy.

Last night after closely inspecting the colony I realized that they are being over taken by Hydroids. They are everywhere, sprouting out of the base of the polyps all the way around the rock.

I fear there is nothing that can be done as hydroids are known for their indestructibility.

    Any ideas?

Take the rock out and scrub it clean, might have to use a chisel or screwdriver to scrape them off. Rinse off in a cup of tank water before putting it back in the tank.

    good luck

I am not sure about the accessibility to the hydroids, but you can use kalk paste and cover them, that should zap them. I have not tried it myself but when I was looking for a cure that what I found.

Would it be possible to remove portions of the coral from the rock and transplant them? Then you could dispose of the infested rock and hopefully keep them from spreading throughout your tank.

    Good luck,
    Tom

Okay, there are at least 8-12 polyps that look like someone took the colony and stuck it to a pin cushion full of hydroids. They are coming out of every spot on the polyp.

Tom-I actually just did get done with a MAJOR frag sesh on the tank. Luckly I did not find any more droids anywhere but on the BH frag. I was able to remove 11 polyps that did not appear to be infested. With surgical precision I removed the polyps with next to no rock on the polyps(it was a smooth surface!) And transplanted 8 to a new plug and 3 to another.

Time will tell.heres to the Blue Hornets!

Really wow! Thanks for the offer, I'll keep you in mind. Couple more hours lights go on in the grow out tank! Hope all is well.
