Default @#%!* Mushrooms !!!!!! <----Bad Bad Bad !!!

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Awhile back I posted a thread about too many mushrooms. I was going to give them away but I was having a hard time getting them off the rocks without them tearing. They were literally taking over my tank. Last night I got fed up with them and tore the tank apart to get rid of them. I started at 4pm and finished at 11pm. I tore apart the entire reef and took out all of the rocks. Scraped off all of the mushrooms and rinsed each rock in 2 buckets of saltwater (saved from a water change yesterday morning).Talk about STINK!!! Massacured shrooms DO NOT smell good. Kinda smells like skimmate, lol. I quit counting at 300. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Thease were not "little mushrooms" They were HUGE. Some were 7-8 inches across when expanded. I can not believe how many were in there. I didn't even notice that 2 of my corals were killed by the blasted mushrooms. My candy cane is a gonner and so is my frogspawn. I don't think my fox coral is going to make it either. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I know the mushrooms will come back, but I feel better knowing it will be awhile before they get to plague proportions again.Just a warning to anyone putting mushrooms in their tank. They spread everywhere and are a PITA to get rid of. They are also poisenous. I have hives all up and down my arm from them. I did wear gloves, but after a few hours of scrubbing off rocks, I got water inside both gloves. : ( Oh well it was worth it in my opinion. I did save the largest rock that was covered in shrooms.(It has my feather Duster attached to it and I didn't want to hurt it trying to scrub the mushrooms off) I put that rock in my hubby's Lionfish tank. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Reef_Angel & Dakar.......How are the mushrooms that I gave you doing? Do they get HUGE? Are they Spreading?#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Angie#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

FWIW... I previously rid my tank of shrooms by using Kalk paste. It kills them just like it does mojano and aptaisa.

Angie, they have sorta scattered all over the place... but not rapidly muliplying or growing particularly fast. (although tearning down all the rockwork to look all around may prove differently). Angel would be able to better tell us what's in there... LOL#ed_op#BR#ed_cl##ed_op#BR#ed_cl#Maybe I've stunted their growth rate a bit with the rather high amount of lighiting?#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
Every electronic device is manufactured with smoke stored deep inside... only a true genius can find a way to set it free.

There's an LFS on Hwy 100 in Milwaukee that has a softy tank that is just jam packed with shrooms and I think it looks amazing.
120G Reef and 40B reef at work, 120G tank dry and dirty in the garage.

Angie, if you can get good frags of them see if your LFS will give you credit for them. seems a shame to kill all of them off.
