I've got a 20L with two of the HOB refuges on the back. One of them doesn't have a light and is a couple inches of live sand and about 6 inches of LR rubble. The other has a Jali light on it and it grows cheato and pods to fast that I end up throwing the cheato away. The last time I got lazy with the cheato and I literally pulled a square "brick" of it out of the fuge. While they aren't as nice as a below the tank sump, I wouldn't label them as "snake oil" either. One fantastic benefit of them is that the pods have a gravity shot into the tank instead of running the impeller gauntlet of a return pump. While many pods I'm sure make it through a return pump, the gravity feed into a tank would be preferable to me, if I were a pod.

Amphibious is little overly cutting the refuge down as stated by perputual and myself they work just not as well as a big refuge. I had it on my 75 gallon and it brought the nitrates and that down 5 percent after it had been up and running for awhile. No they will not be as good as a bigger refuge but we all know that at they are very easy to set up and run pretty much plug and play

whats the least you would take for it and does it work like a power filter where you just plug it in the wall and water comes in through the intake and out through the outtake and how big is it and would it be beneficial on a 30 gal until i get my 55 gallon tank.

Yes it is just plug in and go amd yes any refuge will help if you don't have one. I was running it on my 75 until I build a bigger one and got my 130 set up

does it just plug into the wall like a power filter and then water pumps in and out of it? Is it assembled and is it worth 65.00???????
