The MillionAir AC/DC Auto Switch Battery Air Pump arrived today from Premium Aquatics.

The pump will work in battery only mode if you do not plug it into the wall. It does not operate if you plug it into the wall and there is power. So it is the kind of thing most of us want. It came with an airstone - but you will need to get two D cell batteries.

This was my first experience with Premium Aquatics. I ordered a bunch of odd ball stuff - because they had it listed and they were items I had intended to have around. I ordered Monday and it arrived Wednesday.

VERY good topic! Although I am just now reading it as I am catching up on everything I have missed here

My tank has been up/running about 3 yrs now, and has seen its fair share of power outages.
While we have not ever been 'destroyed' (knock on wood), we have had our taste of damages from hurricane season. Power outages due to horrible storms, wind force, trees falling over power lines...you wouldn't believe how many times the power goes out during hurricane season! But, I am so proud of my tank.....the longest it has gone without power, was a week. I was nervous, and unfortunately- during the season you cannot just go to the hardware store and stock up. Generators are flying out like hotcakes, so if you didn't prepare- you were out of luck. I remember going in there and stirring the water around, haha even blowing bubbles slowly thru a long straw as a last resort. We had decided to go the generator/house route. But, still looking for the one we want. We just have not ever been hit (again knock on wood), and the thought of losing everything I have invested in my reef with money, time, effort, thought, love......I would be devastated.
Really a good topic....... and lol funny that I am seeing it now. I wil have to remind my husband it's that time of year to head back to Lowes, lol

    Great job on this article.

    Another tip I found out:
My 8k generator wouldn't 'energize' and give electricity last year. I looked it up and if you take a drill, plug it into the generator while running, hold the trigger on the drill in the forward setting, spin it backwards, it will re-energize the generator. It works and I have it sitting on the generator in case it happens again.

Another type of battery back up is the Penn Plax, Silent Air B11. It plugs into the wall with the switch on (stays off) and when the power dies, it turns on and uses it's 2 D'batteries to run an air pump. Mine ran all day once and put out a lot of air through the stone. About $11 each.
    240g Great Lakes Glass! ETSS1400/panworld250,LED 120wX4 AJM, LED,2x sunbrite ,Tunzex4/,200gal sump/mixed reef/Biopellets. Hammerhead return. UV 57w. Chiller.

135g down and given to a buddy. New pic after the wall is repaired.
