Default Ridiculous Tank @Applebees = dead shark

The new Applebee's restaurant in Coney Island celebrates its grand opening Monday - and death is on the menu.

A blacktip shark had to be removed Friday from the restaurant's 5,000-gallon aquarium after devouring three Lookdown fish in a shocking killing spree.

That very same day, a whitetip shark died after colliding with a three-foot Wonder Wheel replica in the tank, leaving employees shaken by the mayhem.

The story reported by the New York Times, indicates the sharks were added too quickly and were disoriented. However, these decorations seem like a death trap for long fish like sharks.

    What do you guys think?

Pretty sure it happens more than we hear about. I mean how many times do you see fish with ich in that show. I have noticed they are trying to be better, exposing the water temp stuff and all. Still don't like some of their fish combos.

No flaming Chris but if you are not a fish keeper and have no experience you would be expecting a nice community. It would probably be a shock to see nature up close and personal.

Yep, you have a good point there

Yes I watched it earlier tonight for this very reason. And surprise, surprise nothing was mentioned about any of the tank inhabitants dying due to the tank decorations. I'm sorry, IMO this show shouldn't be on the air, it's a huge misrepresentation of the true hobby of saltwater/reef keeping and mis educating the public that likes to watch the show. After there done making the tanks and putting all the "garbage" in them such as Ferris wheels, cakes, tooth brushes, and fake body organs they just look like glorified freshwater tanks. It's frustrating to watch them put an average of 4 to 5 tangs in most of their tanks even the small ones where the fish have no rock work to use for hiding/protection and nothing to graze on?!? It's funny to hear them talk about all the chemicals they have to use when making their coral inserts and props for these tanks when I look over at my tank and think, my tank ingredients, live rock and live sand, done. Just a natural habitat for a natural looking reef. Plain and simple. If anyone else watched this episode, did you happen to catch how bad those purple tangs were that they showed at ERI? Talk about lateral line desease.
