AquaClear 50 - 402 Powerhead question

Here is a question for you guys & gals.....

I have 3 Aquaclear 50 (402's) Powerheads and all three of them blow microbubbles out every few seconds. Why? It's driving me nuts.

One is mounted on suction cups and completely submerged....Still blows the bubbles. The other is on a hanger over the side with only the very top breaking the surface.

Both of those have Hydor FLO's on them but they do the bubble thing without the FLO's too.

They are coming out of the tank this evening to make room for my 2 SEIO 820's that are coming today but I want to use them in my wife's 29G nano that is soon to be under construction.

Any thoughts?

They are blowing bubbles even when 100% submerged? Thats impossible.......unless perhaps they are chopping the water up so much that they cause gas bubbles to come out of solution......but that seems really odd.....


edit: Do you ever notice oxgen bubbles come off the algae in your tank? When the lights are on in my tank, I get occasional bubbles off the algae. It is possible that these are the bubbles you are getting and they are being sucked into the pumps.

I would think impossible too but it's doing it. I thought perhaps sucking bubbles that my P.O.S. skimmer was kicking into the tank so I removed the skimmer and they still do it!

I see the occasional one here or there but not at the rate these PH's blow bubbles.

Seems very odd here as well.. can't think of any reasonable explanation for the AC's to do that without a constant supply of air to chop up they just plain shouldn't be doing that.

A word of caution when you get the new Seio's (awesome powerheads!), keep them well submerged in the tank, our M1500's if in less than 7-8" of water tend to start little vorticies or whirlpools of air from the surface. Now thtat's some serious water movement, but they also make a cool noise as they fill your tank with airbubbles. I've heard the same thing from others running the M820's as well.

Problem is still occurring too. It's weird. 2 of them are older 402's and one is a brand new Aquaclear 50 and they all 3 do it.

Thanks for the heads up on the SEIO's. They didn't come today, Blasted U.S.P.S. and their "Priority Mail" 2-3 days and takes 3 when you are really anxious to get something. Better be here tomorrow! Lest I might go "Postal" J/K lol
