smaller reef safe activated... the kent pellets are good, IMO. Rinse 'em well in RO water before putting them into the water. BTW, water flow through the carbon does well for better removal, but too much flow(alot of movement, rubbing, etc) can cause the carbon to break down into smaller pieces or even dust and a probable release of those things removed could occur.
