    It's funny you posted this question because I was just thinking about this today. I am trying to convince my wife why we need a 100 gal. or larger tank. ( a very tough sell, she's a stubborn one) , and on my 60 gal tall I had a basic stand pipe with slots cut in it surrounded by Bio-balls, and it was very simple, but I always thought it made too much noise.

    im running a durso right now. if u dont try and max out the volume of flow through them they can be quiet. its when u max them they start gurgling and flushing. u may also want to check into the herbie method.

    will the herbie work with a drilled tank?
