Recently pieced together a Tunze 6055 and am wondering how to take advantage of its controllability. I've considered building a nanowavebox but with an older tank I'm conerned the seams may not be strong enough. I've read (somewhere) that these pumps can still generate waves without the box. But I've not heard how this is done. So, how can I make waves with this pump if I don't have a wavebox and will these "waves" also have the potental to break my tank?
Current tank is a 50 breeder. Soon to be upgraded to a 75 and in a year or two moved to a 90 gallon. I'm hoping the answer to "making waves" will work in all three tanks.
The Tunze single controller won't be able to make a resonant wave. You'd need a controller like a Neptune Aqua Surf or Variable Speed Dimming Module. It needs to be able to switch on and off the pump and time it down to fractions of a second to get a standing wave.
With that said, I personally don't feel like my growth or health of corals was any better with the resonant wave. I have an MP-10 now and it is dialed way back. My corals are a lot happier than they were getting tossed around. I have a lot of softies now though...so it depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
Thanks for the info all. I think I need to read the user manuals for all of the various Tunze controllers and decide if I want the resonant wave or not. Really all I'm looking for is for the softies and gorgonia to sway back and forth (and have the aquarium stay in one piece).
