Default My skimmer isnt bubbling properly

I have a Aqua C Remora HOB skimmer. I got it used. I am running a MJ 1200 to run it. Been running for a month now.

Took a while to break in, but eventually started pulling a little skimate, but very soon stopped. I went to clean it out yesterday and found that its producing less than 1/2 the bubbles it should....

Still makes the same noises it always has, just very little bubble action. Anyone experiance this and have a cause??

i would put a mag on it, i forgot the number they recommend. A maxi jet has always been a little underrated for this skimmer

^ thats what I was thinking- the pump isnt pushing enough water to pull enough air....had the same issue not too long ago with a berlin skimmer.

I did use an older MJ pump. Might replace it with a newer one for now and see if it makes a difference, till I can get a mag drive to replace it.

Thanks for the info. Gonna switch around a couple pumps and see what happens.

Its a 3 they recommend, Mags are kind of big and bulky maybe look into rios or those smaller gen x pumps

Stay away from Rio, they leak black smootz into the tank and over heat.

Just hooked up a Rio HP 8- 550 gph pump. Gonna watch it and see how it works. Pretty big for this skimmer, but gonna see how it goes.

I have the ACR Pro and there is also a screw inside the pipe that you can take out and clean the pipe with a supplied pipe cleaner. The screw also acts as an adjustment for air/water intake.

Rabid- with the MJ pump, I played with the adjustment screw, and got no results as far as bubble differences.

The Pro comes with a Mag3 and I upgraded to the Mag5 with good results. If you have taken the screw out and cleaned the pipe that would lead me to believe your pump is underpowered as well.
