NEED TO COOL THINGS OFF

I know alot of you guys have wired CPU fans into your canopies for cooling. Well I need to do the same thing. I want to put at least 4 in the canopy. and actually was thinking about putting a couple in the ceiling above my tank. its fairly low and goes right into the attic.
I need some direction in doing this. I have nooooo damm clue how to wire these things up. I am wondering can you wire them to plug right in the wall (this is what I am hoping to accomplish) Or is there another way they have to be wired. any links or anything would be greatly appreciated. I have acces to any damm computer fan that I need I have a buddy that owns a computer shop so that is not the problem.

For our 290gl. We are putting a 110 CFM bath fan in the ceiling / canopy with a 4" vent pipe going out of the roof to push that humid air out of the house and the attic. moisture and insulation do not mix. I am going to controll it with a reverse temp. t-stat that will also control a few 120v fans to push air across the water to help cool things off.

I do belive they need to be wired to a plug fo like a cell phone charger to reduce the voltage. I think your best bet to insure they are done correctly would be to talk to your buddy. He should know exactly what they need to run, then run down to radio shack and pick up the plug you need. You could also plug it into a timer to come on like 30 minutes after your lights and stay on 30 minutes after so they only run when you need them. I have seen some pretty cool units with heatsinks and stuff if you need some for your ballests.

hey are u running any external ice cap ballasts already? if so are there any open positive and negative connections? alot of people wire them in that way.

I do know you can wire them so that you can plug them into the wall but like joe said they need a low voltage type plug....r.s. should be able to sell you the needed parts

I just put a thermostat controlled attic fan in the compressor room here at work... it works very well. I recommend the temp controlled unit for those just in case situations.

For your size of set-up I would probably just go start for a bathroom style vent fan. They can be bought for a reasonable price and will work much better for coolling. Here is an article that might be helpful.

I installed a 1.0 sone fan in my bathroom and it is nice and quiet. You can hook up a temp or huminity controller to them for ease of use. Fly me to Boise and I will hook everything up for you.

All you have to do is buy a DC converter that has a voltage selector on the front of it (wal-mart has them for like 8 bucks, and cut the end off. Get 2 - 2.00 distribution blocks from online or radio shack and connect all of your fans to the block. Use one block for positive and one for negative... you can't wire these fans backwards, really. I bought 12 fans online at NewEgg for 12.00.... if you buy less than 10, its more than $20.00, but more than 10, they're a dollar each.

I have been trying to call you for two weeks...but you fell off the face of the planet. If you still have internet...wherever you are. I have two more fans, brand new in their boxes sitting here. They are the same ones that I used for my tank, and they work GREAT! I will trade you for another seio magnet if your interested.
