    Default submersible/in-line pumps

Is there a pump that can be either a submerged or in-line(non-submerged)? Aren't the rio's like that?

Rio's are submersible only(not sure on the new HyperFlows),Mags can be used both ways and there are many other brands that can.Just look for a threaded nozzle on the pump and that is usually a give away that it can be used for both.

Though the Rio's are submersable only pumps and not what you are looking for, it may be worth noting they were getting a pretty bad rap for a while there for a lot problems with their pumps and powerheads, if the recent reports are acurate they've made a lot of changes and resolved the issues, but their may still be a bunch of the crappy ones around, not sure if there were any cosmetic changes to distinguish the old from the new.

Personally I like the Mag pumps.... I've consolidated as much data as I could find and posted it HERE if you want to do some comparisons on the various pumps out there on the market as far as volume, head pressures, power consumption and some other data..

Also, if you goto www.marinedepot.com and click on 'powerheads' and then 'Mag Drive' and then scroll down, you'll get a list for each size pump and how many GPH and different head heights.
