    Default XM-L Cree's

    Hey Evil,

I have been following the release of these bad boys. I was interested in trying some on a small fixture I am going to build over the winter months. One on-line place has them but they are not pre-set on stars for easy soldering. Are you guys planning on carrying these and if so what color bin would you suggest?

We have inquiries in to our supplier to see what mounting and lens options will be available. Not sure on color bin just yet, as I'm not sure what I will have access to. Hopefully I will have better options than what Cutter has. The group codes for those LEDs is so wide, you can get anything from 5300K to 8000K.

Looks like we won't see XM-L's until some time in January. Looks like Cutter got lucky and got an early shipment. We will have them mounted on standard 20mm stars by the time they release in mass quantity. No word on optics for them. XP series optics won't work because of the larger dome, die, and package size. Ledil supposedly has some out, but I'm sure it's the usual 40 degree and tighter routine.

I was hoping you guys would have them. Would much rather go through a sponsor I trust not to mention one that has an expert forum. Update us once you have them. I know I want a dozen to play with. Do you know if they plan on a RB emitter in this series?

RB's aren't likely. You would see an XP-G royal first.

You are going to play with these too, right? With the out put of these even at 700ma it seems a 2:1 XR-E RB to one XM-L is a starting point. I do hope you get acess to something more between 8K and 10K.

**** yeah I'm going to play with these. 1000lm @ 3A in a 5mmx5mm package is fun in the making. My supplier is getting a pretty large selection in, so hopefully I'll be able to pick and choose bins without much difficulty. 8300K is currently the highest listed bin for the XM-L right now. I'm sure Cree will expand the lineup in due time. Honestly, high kelvin whites don't look that great. The current shift in the community is to warmer white color temperatures for better color rendering.

Not sure just yet. I have access to some drivers that will go up to 2.5A, but not 3A.
