    Default The WEIRDEST thing.......

The weirdest thing ever has been going on in my tank. It started yesterday before I went to work. My Frogspawn and Orange hammer corals were not their usual fluffy fat selves. Came home from work and no change.
This morning still the same thing. Both closed up tighter than I have ever seen them. EVER.
Even more odd is the fact that they are on opposite sides of the tank from each other with another Orange Torch in between. The torch is not effected at all?????
I keep a very mixed reef with sticks, clams, anemones, z's and p's, acans etc. No other single coral is showing any signs of any stress at all. PERIOD! Everything with exception of the Euphyllias are happy and fully open.

Know I know what everyone is going to say........can't help with out params and lighting etc.
Well params as always are rock solid, tested last night and everything is right where I want it to be. Although calcium is a touch high at 480.
Lighting is 8 months old, T5's. Changing them out next month. Skimmer is rocking. And no nothing has been changed or done to the tank in 4+ weeks. Other than weekly 10 gallon water changes and regular feedings.
And then the only change was I went to ESV salt on both tanks.

    Any ideas?

    Rob,

This is what my approach would be.

Make salt water from ESV and test the water - test alk , calc, megnesium

Make salt water from old salt and test and test the water - test alk , cal and megnesium

    And compare them.

I dont think light is an issue, but lps do react to rapid/fast alk changes. But I would guess your acans should react before the frogspwans react.

BTW did I hear orange hammer - Pics plz

I would normally agree with you Manoj, but I started 4+ weeks ago on both systems and this is the first sign of any stress.
Plus I would expect my SPS and clams to show signs first if there were alk or calc issues.
Everything is really happy and healthy but the two euphys.

As for the Orange Hammer, well I got had on that one. Only shows orange and gold under actinic. Full light is more tan. But thats what ya get for buying sit unseen. Still like it though!!

Is the Coral Rx in this tank or in a tank connected to this one?

Not sure I am following Tom. Coral Rx is a dip or treatment. I do use it for new incoming corals to either system. Grow out and Display are separate systems.

I thought you've been treating algae on frags using Coral Rx, and was wondering if this treatment was somehow affecting the Euphys. If it's a dip then that's pretty unlikely. Especially if it's being used in the other system!

    Any chance of stray voltage?
Detroit's oldest large LED tank! Est'd Jan 2005, went LED June 2009. 6' wide 130g reef, Sunbrite T10 LED tubes (3xGen 3 and 1xGen 1), mostly SPS, but chalices, other LPS, and a few softies too.

Double and triple check your salinity, and calibration on what ever you are using. Only reason I ever keep eauphilia is for a back up plan/indicaor for salinity. Sounds like your salinity might be high?

I have a hand held refractor and the RKL monitor. Just calibrated both about 3 weeks ago, they weren't off much at all.
