    Default accidental pipefish

I just received my latest order of live white shrimp from www.livebrineshrimp.com and there were 2 small pipefish mixed in with the white shrimp. I never researched thease because I didn't ever intend on keeping them. Now that I have them, what do I feed them? I DID NOT order them......they were mixed with the shrimp so don't flame me for getting something I don't know how to care for. Please help. Angie

Any Ideas on what king of pipe fish? I know that Jason (Repto) has a dragon one to help with red bugs. Otherwise I don't know how to care for them. Live Aquaria has a general kind of rule of thumb if you look up under pipefish.

they are very simular to keeping sea horses. go to www.oceanrider.com and they should be able to help you with food and info. btw they will eat small critters i.e. mysis shrimp and the like.

They should be fine added to the environment of your pony tank. They are kind of hard to keep...just like seahorses. They eat mysis shrimp just like the ponys. Call me please and we can talk! TTYL! ...Angel

Just an update. The pipefish are still doing well. I didn't see them for about 2 weeks so I thought they died. I saw them yesterday and they are fat so they are eating well. They are the hardest things to find. I search for them daily and have only spotted them 2 timesin the last 3 weeks. I have so much macro in the tank they are in, I can't find anything that doesn't swim up to glass, lol. I gave Reef_Angel a Large portion of the macro out of this tank, and I swear it grew back 10 fold in 2 weeks time. I will have plenty for the new tank, that's for sure.

Any pics? description? Some larger pipes will eat mysid. Others need smaller foods like cyclopeeze. My blueline pipefish eats cyclopeeze and shaven foods because even frozen adult brine is too small. Others like Janns, aligator etc will eat even larger foods.

    Default caribbean pipefish

Here is the pic and description from the place I got them from. I order my live feeder shrimp for my sea horses from here and that's how I got them.(mixed in with the feeder shrimp)

The Caribbean Pipefish (Syngnathus caribbaeus) also includes Florida in its habitat.

Pipfish are in the same family as Seahorses and therefore require the same environment (species tank) and food (small, live food). We suggest that a buyer purchase an LBS-3 (1/4 size bag of live brine shrimp) to feed the newly acquired pipefish. Pipefish should be in their own tank so tank-mates don't eat all the brine shrimp before the pipefish. Pipefish and Seahorses can share the same tank.
