I don't know if it is the same for SW fish but there is a disease in FW fish that will cause eyes to bulge out. I think the FW disease is called Pop-eye. If you can't find an answer here or elsewhere online I recommend calling @Preuss (517) 339-1762. They are very knowledgeable and should have a solution for you.
