    Default DavidP......Help !!!!

I'm having some problems with my female sea horse (H.redi). The male seems to be fine.

She stopped eating. Today is day 2 with her refusing food. I have not changed their food at all. It is still P.E. Mysid. (I tried hakari (sp.?) today and she didn't eat that either) I tested the water and everything was normal and proper. ( I changed 5 gallons just in case it was something I couldn't test for ) She also changed colors. She used to be all black but she turned white with black speckles. She doesn't stay white all of the time. She can turn from white to black in seconds. ( I just watched her do it a few mins. ago. Right now she is black) I ordered some live marine feeder shrimp (1/8 - 1/4 in) in hopes that she will eat that. The order should be here tomorrow. I didn't want to go to the live for fear that they wouldn't go back to frozen, but I'd rather do that then have her not eat at all. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Angie

Any idea what was going on Angie? Glad she is doing better!

BTW how did the feeder shrimp work out?

I called and asked if it was ok to cancel the shrimp order since I didn't need them anymore. The let me cancel it since it wasn't shipped yet.

I have no idea what was going on. Whatever it was it didn't hurt anything.

    Hi Angie!
I've been doing a ton of reading on my sea babies, and I ran across the answer to your question. It may have appeared that your pony stopped eating, it was probably snicking a pod here and there. Your pony may just have been a little stressed. As far as the change in color to white with black speckles, that's completely normal for our H.Reidi! They are known to be quite the little color changers. Maybe those are that ponies way of showing that they aren't feeling the best.
We added a pair of tank raised yellow H.Reidi from Pet World, and one of the days I was sick and not awake at all, Dave put up a 44G Pentagon Tank, and had the tank in the corner next to my bed. The 20G tank just didn't seem to give them enough room. The 2 yellow's are a bit younger than our first group of 4, but are such adorable babies. I have a feeling that they have a source that's selling the babies to the store at a low price. Our price was great! I believe they were only $38 each! Speckles is a pretty bright yellow, but it was mostly around her eyes and on her nose. As she acclimated to our tank with all the good stuff we have in there, he/she would darken up to almost pure black while she was hunting pods. The other one is real young yet, but cute as ever. She would be considered a "gold" pony. It's such a pretty color that you know you couldn't duplicate it with any mixtures of yellow. When Goldy (possible name for her) is pod hunting, she looks like Speckles when she's relaxed. Their color changes sure seem to believe it's their way of just camouflaging themselves. They sure know how to quickly steal your heart in a hurry! I'm so happy we got involved in our little pony's, especially since we have had the tank full of water and ready to just go out and buy them. They like attention, so they are happiest when you're around the tank. They show off, and they love to pop into the flow of the power heads and go rolling head over tail until the water takes a corner turn and they bop out of the flow. Then they turn around and head back to the beginning where their little ride begins again. Then they head down to their favorite spot in the tank. I never dreamed they'd be friendly and so darn cute! All are doing very well, but I think we'll stick with our group of 6. I don't think we are interested in breeding, but that's a little ways down the road. For now, we just enjoy their beauty! I'm sure you know what I mean about that Angie!! :seahorse:
I have to get to bed. I've fallen asleep on this note back to you about 8 times now, so if anything sounds "off", you'll understand! G'Night all you pony lovers!

    Dave.... many thanks!

All, When the new board was put up (new software) it is obvious that the changes included my need to go back in and re-subscribe to my own forum ... Dooh! I can sometimes be a bonehead!

In any case, I've been real busy at work, with my sump project, and with the Talking Reef Podcast projects. I apologize! I'll get my act together soonest!

In the mean time, if anything like this comes up and you need me, any of the mods and admins can find me. They have my work email, phone numbers etc. Don't hesitate to ask them to find me.

Have a great and salty day!

    Dave
