    Default New 75g

Here's my newest tank setup. It now houses my fry that I raised from birth. They are the first fry I ever raised, so they are my special ponies. I have 3 males and 1 female. I want to add 2 more females, but I'm not sure if I want to add seahorses from a different supplier to my group. There are also 2 true perc. clowns and a lawnmower blennie in the tank.

This tank is chilled with a prime 1/3 HP chiller set to 70 degrees. I know the size of the chiller is overkill, but this way I can plumb more then 1 seahorse tank to it should I need to in the future.

There is 30g sump with an asm G3 skimmer, mag 9.5 returm pump, and NO macros in the sump. I wanted the macros in the tank to get all of the nutrients for now since this is a newer tank and I didn't want the sump macros outcompeting the display macros. If it's too much for the display macros to handle, I can always add chaeto to the sump to help with the nitrates. The rock is from marco rocks and I seeded it with 25 lbs Live rock that I had from other tanks.

Huh? Whether in the sump or in the display, they will "uptake" the nutrients from the water. All of the water should be cycling through the sump. As a matter of fact, in the sump, you can slow the water motion to offer more "contact time" with the macro. Otherwise, having the macro in the display to both help control nutrient load AND provide hitching, is a good idea.

There isn't enough of a nutrient load right now to have a sump full of macros and get good growth out of the ones in the display. All of the water does cycle through the sump.....There is only LR and sand in the sump.

In the last 5 years I have noticed that whenever I setup a new tank and added too many macros, some of them go sexual and / or die off. I will add chaeto to the sump if I notice the nitrates or phosphates are getting high. Untill then I don't need it. I feed from a feeding dish so there isn't a lot of uneaten mysis breaking down or decaying in or under the rocks. The Live rock and behind it is also blown off with the baster atleast twice a day just to make sure there are no piles of SH poop stuck there. I'm amazed at the piles they can leave behind. It usually gets stuck on my feather caulerpa. Not so pretty waving in the current

Does that answer the Hugh? LOL

(It's angie, lol.) This one was already setup and cycled the weekend of the wedding. I just hadn't added the seahorses yet. It was a nice weekend and a nice wedding. The can coolers came in handy the following day. It was hot, but the Beer was cold! I'm sure glad you had enough room for everything to fit in your truck. I can't wait to see your 65g set up. I've been watching the new posts to see what you do with it. I love setting up new tanks as well. Once they are past the "new tank algae blooms" it's smooth sailing. Good luck....I'll keep watching for your posts.

    Default updates

I added a few things to the tank since the last post. I added 4 female southern erectus to the tank. (Draco Marine) 2 are large and 2 are 2-3 inches. Some of you may recall the use of the drilled plastic tub that I used for my last babies. I'm using it again for the 2 smaller ponies till they grow up a bit. I want to make sure they don't get lost and that they get enough to eat in the 75g tank.

I also added the red gracileria, 50 micro blue leg hermits, 30 astrea snails, and a sea cucumber. Hopefully tomorrow I will get the 100 nass. snails I ordered. I have 1 rock that has some of the dreaded HA on it. I will be keeping an eye on it. With the addition of 1 lb of the red gracileria I can't see it getting enough nutrients to survive. Here is an updated pic of the tank. It's a little cloudy since I just changed the filter sock in the sump. It will clear up quickly.

I'm hoping in a few months I will have babies. With 4 males and 4 females it's bound to happen
