The original one actually looks like it has lightning patterns, that one is pretty plain and boring and honestly dont know why someone would pay more than $30 for it.
I agree. And, perhaps my Title was a tad harsh. I am sure it is worth this to somebody. But, I wouldn't pay that much for a fish even if I had won the lottery.

Its not the prospect of owning the fish thats causing an elevated amount of bidding, its simply the fact that this F1 generation holds promise for breeders to create more "lightning morph" clownfish and hence reselling them for large sums of money.
Also, no need to be a buzzkill. Some people may see value in this fish and others may not. You don't have to mock them.

This hobby isnt really about making money tbh, and if thats what they see a fish as then they arent really "hobbyists" they just have a bunch of tiny tanks to stuff a pair of fish in and give em a crap life in order to make a few bucks

So you would object to even commercial operations such as SA or ORA acquiring these fish in order to spread them across a wider market?
Our hobby wouldn't be where it is today without the advent of captive culturing and rearing.
