    Default Got fry?? Round 2

I went to feed the last feeding of the day last night, and look who was looking at me, lol. He / she is the first baby from my Draco Marine seahorses. He is a "warning baby". I have him in the kreisel system, waiting for all of his brothers and sisters to join him. Daddy is HUGE!!! So far the dad is still holding onto the rest of the fry. I've been lurking around the parents tank all day just waiting for the rest.

    Default Pics of the parents

Here are some pics of the parents. Because they are Northern Erectus, the fry do not hitch at birth. Back to hatching brine shrimp

In the last pic you can see the HUGE pouch. I think I'm going to have a lot of babies for a first batch. I guess they didn't drop any of the eggs.

The mom is my cirried female.

As for what I'm going to do with all of the babies, I will have to wait and see how many I have when they are sellable size. I will sell them of course. I will offer them up for sale on the boards first. I have pet stores in Madison, Milwaukee, and La Crosse that will buy from me. So far only 1 of them will actually get any from me. I'm pretty picky about my babies and I had some "rules" the stores had to follow. Only 1 agreed to all that I suggested. The other 2 had to think about it. I'd rather give them away then sell them to a LFS that doesn't care if they live or die. Here are the things I asked of the pet stores.

    1. Their tank must be offline from the rest of their tank. This is a no brainer for anyone who know anything about inline systems. One disease can travel into all of the tanks on that system. Medicating a sick fish is one thing, treating a sick seahorse is very difficult and time consuming.

    2. My seahorses must be the only seahorses in the tank. If they don't agree to keep them seperate, I won't sell to them. I don't want my babies dying because they added another seahorse from another supplier that was a carrier of a disease that my seahorses do not have immunity to.

    3. A health / origin card must be sold with each seahorse. This will list when it was born, who the parent were, where the parent came from, what they are eating, my email address (for questions they may have) and so forth.

I know, I'm a crazy over protective seahorse lady. Oh well, someone has to be. It's the only way I could sell them to pet stores. I work in one, and I know how it goes. Not always good that's for sure.

I now set up saltwater tanks in peoples homes and maintain them, so a few of the females want seahorses. I'm sure some will get sold that way too.

Sounds like you've laid down some extremely reasonable rules, Angie. If they can't go by them, they don't deserve your ponies. Period.

    BTW, CONGRATS again!

I may want a couple for the 35 hex. Have to see what the money situation is at the time.
