Default Grrr!!! Tang picking at new clam!!!

I got home from running errands this morning to find my new clam closed up. There was a snail crawling on the shell so figured "no big deal" but a few minutes later I noticed my purple tang pick at the clam. My first thought was maybe the clam had some algae on it, so I sat and watched for a minute and sure enough as soon as the clam peaked out again, the tang would take a bite at it. I am like "STOP that". Tangs aren't suppose to like to eat clams!!! Its not like the tang is starving, in fact she is fat. There is a ton of caelpra in there, that she doesn't touch, but she picks at my new clam. Ugh. I have fashioned a shelter for the clam out of some grid panel so the clam is safe from the tang but what do I do now. I am guessing there is no fixing the problem with out removing one of them. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Unfortunately all fish have the potential to attack or eat any coral in the tank. All fish can be considered a hit and miss type thing. That's why you have to be so careful when adding new things. If your tang has developed a taste for clam then he will either keep at it til it's dead or one of the other is removed. Now you have to make a choice as to which one you want to keep. Most tangs don't go after this stuff so you could try another at the LFS. I have seen tangs go after amazing things that aren't suppose to be in their diet. That being said others won't even consider it. Your store if it's good should have no issues with you exchanging it. Otherwise you can take back the clam and not put another in the tank. Hope this helps, I don't think that you want a screen in your tank all the time though and that would be the only option to keeping the two things you have now.
