    Default Help....best tank options

OK, I LOVE my 6 new seahorses from Draco Marine. I wouldn't trade them for anything. But there is a problem. They are WAY WAY too tiny for the 75g they are in. It takes me over 40 mins. just to locate all 6 of them to target feed them 3x a day. (about 3 hrs. a day just to feed them) They are so small they are dwarfed in this tank. It also doesn't help that the entire bottom of this tank is covered with macros. They are so small they wiggle into the macros and I can't see them. To make it worse, most of them have turned either yellow or green. The EXACT color of the macros. Prolifera green I call it.

They way I see it I have 2 options.

    1) Move them to a 10g and train them to a feeding station and hope they grow a little in the process. I can't train them to a feeding station in the huge 75g. They won't follow the baster that far.

    2) Section off part of the 75g and keep them in the smaller part of the tank. I do have the egg crate material, but they are small enough to wiggle thru the small squares. So I don't think that will work very well. I think I would have to go buy a sheet of plexiglass / acrylic and drill a few hundred holes in it for circulation. The best benefit of the sectioning off part of the 75g is that they still have the huge water volume and the sump with the skimmer.

The 10g would be the easiest to do. I would add a HOB filter to the 10g for circulation and filteration. Plus I would add some of the macros they seem to love so much.

I would love to get this completed by tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks for any help. If anyone has a better idea, feel free to post it.

Did you get the new 75 yet??? If you got the replacement I would section it off as a grow out like you where going to do and just use that. I have some great ideas and don't think I could explain them properly in writeing (maby in chat) or we could set up a pone call and then post what you do. Eiter way with my limited knowledge of ponys I would say the more watter the better.

Thanks, I do not have the replacement for the leaking 75g yet. I do have a new 75g rr that the ponies are in now. I'm mixing a new 32g container of fresh sw so I can use the 10g IF I decide to go that way. I will use 1/2 of the water out of 75g they are in now, and 1/2 new water. I hate the thought of moving them out of a tank I just put them into 2 days ago, but it's too hard the way it is now. I think the 10g option is the easiest....but the sectioning off part of the 75g is probably the best but lots more work, time, and money.

Can you get an acrilic 10 or 20 gal?? If so just drill a lot of holes and put it upside down or drill a peice of acrylic to fit the top and put rock on it to hold the lid. Same water volume less work!!

ahhh haaaa.....now there's an idea. I just don't know where I'd get an inexpensive 10g Acrylic tank. BUT.....walmart has clear plastic storage containers. Ohhh I see a plan comming together here. Thanks Jojo!

I could easily drill holes in the plastic storage container and hang it on the inside of the 75g. Still in the 75g, but contained to a smaller area. Yippy!!!! I knew you guys would come up with something!!

Oh boy.......tomorrow is "Black Friday".....It's going to be a nut house in all of the stores. Oh well, I've dealt with worse for my seahorse lol.

    Thanks a million !!

Yeah I thought of that too but those nets are usually REALLY SMALL!! If you could find a larger one that may be easier yet!

I will use the storage tote idea. It could be reused later for isolating corals or fish if needed. I'm all for reusing things later. I have 20 or so 7 wk old H. Erectus fry that may need it at some point if I don't sell them all

Well I'm glad you got it all worked out. With a little hillbilly ingenuity you could make it to hang from the back so you wouldnt have to reach in the bottom to feed.
