Default lost a pipefish last night

so i woke up to one of my pipes being eaten by my nassarius snails. it was definitely dead by the time i got down stairs. it was they smallest of the 2, but the most active one. it showed no signs of being sick. since i bought them they have definitely put on some weight. both were feeding actively.

as another thread just recently brought up, nassarius snails can pick of tank mates that arent doing well. is it possible that they just picked of this tank mate because it is naturally a slow mover and therefore an easy target? if so im gonna get rid of the nassarius snails.

Sorry about the loss of your pipefish. I was just watching one of your videos last night. I've not personally seen a nassarius snail picking on healthy animals, but I'm no expert in that field (or any field for that matter!). I have several in my tank and know that they are on top of anything that is dead or dying...but I've never seen them pick on something living.

the reason is because i fed them at about 8:30 last night, both were perfectly fine. im taking a short day at work today and im going to test my water immediately when i get home. also the nassarius snails only got a chance to eat the eyes of the fish,. so upon inspection of the fish there were no signs of injury or topical infection.

Sorry for your loss. My guess is the snail did not kill it. A healthy fish...even a slow one, should be able to our swim a snail. But nassarius seem to be one of the first to arrive at the post mortem smorgasbord.
