I am excited, flattered, and honored to announce the new "SeaHorsing Around" forum! I've been graciously requested to moderate this little facet of "Captive Reefing" and I promise to do so to the best of my ability.
Wow... Moderator... How important am I? NOT! Who and what is important is you and your inputs to this forum. Seahorse, or sygnathid keeping in general is relatively new in the scheme of marine aquaria. The same folks who said we could not keep corals in a glass box also said that it'd be impossible to provide the proper husbandry for seahorses in captivity. At the turn of the new millennium, it has become apparent that the popularity of seahorses has risen to an all time high. Thankfully, the technology and science of keeping seahorses has also evolved. At this time, with proper planning, education and awareness, there is no reason that the casual hobbyist should NOT be successful at keeping seahorses. Furthermore, with additional study and effort, we should be able to see a complete life cycle of our seahorses, to include pregnancy, birthing, and rearing of the young.
My job here is that of "Moderator". I am far from an "authority" on the subject matter. I know enough to keep my herd of Hippocampus Reidi happy and healthy. I have also had some success in the breeding of these ponies. Otherwise, I am learning, with you, about the wonders of these incredible creatures. I do promise to harvest and post content when and if permissions are granted. I also plan to post my personal notebook and other articles of interest that I've authored for your use. Otherwise, please do jump in, provide information, ask questions, or just enjoy the scenery. Remember, there are NO dumb questions when it comes to our hobby. Please feel free to post any and all questions and please be courteous and polite, and respect other contributors posts/questions. I can't say this enough. Furthermore, if someone with real practical experience offers advice, and it is "counter" to what you want to hear, take it as advice and do NOT start a battle in this forum. If I see any of this, I'm closing the thread and leaving my Moderator's position.
Feel free to PM me if you have any 'offline' issues to discuss. I'm glad to be of assistance.
