    Default New lionfish

I bought a lionfish for my husband. (he's wanted one for a long time) It was in the store for over a month and Ihave seen it eat. They were feeding it feeder guppies. I am feeding him saltwater mollie babies. He was listed a s volitan, but that was incorrect. I believe he may be a dwarf antenna lion??
Anyone know for sure? Right now he is only 2 inches. He has black and brown spots on the webbing between the fins if that helps. I looked on the net and it was labled differently on a few sites.

    Thanks, Angie

He loves them P. vulgaris (SW feeder shrimp)!!!! They are expensive so he will only get 1-2 a week. I plan on converting him to silversides.

i think you have gotten a Pterois antennata (spotfin lionfish)

mine is P. antennata (Spotfin Lionfish) as well ... also known as Antennata Lionfish and Ragged-finned Firefish

Yup, that looks like mine, lol. Hey....how'd you get my fish? Thank you very much. Mine is in the 12G nano untill I get him eating silversides. Then he's either going into the 40G breeder or the 65G. I haven't decided yet. I don't think they get too big for either tank. Especially since I don't have any other fish in either tank. I can't wait to build him some cool caves. I got stung by him 2 weeks ago at work. It hurt, but not too bad. I don't think he got me bad. He must have just missed me. Lucky for me. I didn't see him behind the fake plant in his tank at the LFS. Can you believe I bought him anyways? My hubby didn't think I'd buy it for him after that. I did....but can you guess who's doing the inside tank maint.? (hint : Not me) Good luck with yours. Lions are the about the only "predator" fish I've ever liked.

mine almost got me today when i was bagging him up, the 2 people working there were scared to even bag him for me !! he was actually sold as P. Volitans but when i compared them in my book .... he is in fact a spotfin. i would say that either tank will be big enough because they will only reach ABOUT 8", as where their cousin (volitan lion) reaches 15".

anyway, congrats on your new fish and good luck, but they are very hardy.

Whisperer you have what looks like an antennata. Bobby, your looks like a juvenile volitan.

How far apart were those pictures taken. I have a juv volitan who is growing up quickly. He has been in a small 6 gallon and will upgrade to a 24 in a couple of weeks. He was so teenie tiny when I got him.
