No such thing as dumb questions...'cept the one never asked...

The divider keeps them from becoming 'mulch' from going through pumps and filters or being burnt by the heater. Also, keeps them away from the aptasia and other things on the LR that could hurt them while they are smallish.

Basically, they live in a barebottom tank on the left. All of the mechanical and biological filtration, plus heat is on the right.

The fry are black, grey, clear, yellow, striped, solid...depends on their mood and the relation to their environ. When they are in a display tank, they will color up nice. In the 'sterile' environment that they are in now, they stay black/grey or mottled.

When they are proven on frozen foods and large enough to avoid getting sucked into filters and overflows n' such. At 2 inches total length, they are still small, slow and skinny enough to go quickly through the typical overflow box.

Hey Dave, in the pic below that you'd posted.... what did you use for the partition? Thinking of marking out that hole pattern and setting at the drill press for hours makes me shudder. Did you find something 'predrilled' ???

Good news on the baby front. All have been sold (from this brood) and paid for my long weekend in Cooperstown New York I'm cleaning out the grow outs, the kreisels, and settling in for another New England Winter. I'll be raising as many of the new broods as I can.

I typically have time only during the baseball off-season to grow them out. Other broods given to me by "da boys" go to local aquarists so they can try their luck. I really don't have time during the Summer to do it myself and it is better to let someone else have a go than to let them become Mag Mulch.

My pony boy is about 1 week carrying now. I'm starting up the BBS and splitting phyto this week.

Not really... were you able to purchase the material predrilled or have to DIY? Obviously you know why I'm so interested.... got a couple of tanks being prep'd for critters now.

You certainly could do DIY, but I'd not drill acrylic etc. Waste of time. Here is a good plan that I was able to find:

Otherwise, the divider you see in my Reidi Grow Out systems are simple, over the shelf, Penn Plax brand dividers that you can get for less than ten bucks at a decent stocked LFS.
