Default yellow coris wrasse dissapeared - is it for good?

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#By the way I am very new to the hobby and this is my first yellow coris wrasse. About a week ago I bought a yellow coris wrasse. It hid in the sand the first day for a couple hours. It came out and ate the first day. Everything seemed fine the 2nd, 3rd, 4th - 6th days. Then on the seventh day he just never showed. Today is the eight day and I have not seen him. I understand they will go under the sand at night and when they are stressed. Which actually is possible that I have stressed him. Like I said I am new at this. My specific gravitiy was really low when I added him around 1.019. I have been trying to raise it 0.001 each day to get it up around 1.023. My temp is between 78 and 80. If someone has experiene with the fish and could tell me more about there behaviors. Do they disapear for days at a time and then show up? Or even maybe weeks? Just wondering. If he is truly gone. I guess it is fine to just leave him buried in the sand? Never mind he just showed up while I was typing. But I am still curious what you all have to say. Since I have typed this up. Thanks.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

I'd check the carpet around the back of your tank,I once had a wrasse disappear for weeks until i noticed its corpse all dried up behind the tank. You might want to check the sump as well,he might of went for a ride down the overflow.Check the intakes of your return pumps too.

I did some research on your fish because I had never heard of a yellow wrasse. It would really upset me if he decided that my Feather Duster was going to be his lunch!! The site also states that he can grow to be 6" long. I love the regular 6 line wrasse. It's amazing how beautiful and symmetrically colored! It didn't say anything about them digging under the sand though. I'm sure it's just a brief description of the fish.
This is what Foster & Smith says about it's eating habits:

Quote: It will eat fireworms and pyramidellid snails, protecting corals and clams. In addition, it may eat feather dusters, wild shrimp, tubeworms, and flatworms. It may also eat parasites off of tank mates. Regular feedings should include a variety of prepared and live meaty foods, such as feeder shrimps, flaked foods, and marine fish. ...End Quote

Hope this helps! Enjoy your fish! Angel

yeah Angel, many wrasses will eat some inverts. Its usually not a problem if they are fed daily. They are sand diggers too, usually they burrow at night for sleeping. My first reef tank back in 97 had a Coris wrasse(red, black, white),it was a juvenile, many wrasses color morph as they mature, not sure if the yellow coris wrasse does.#ed_op#BR#ed_cl#BTW,slowly start raising your Salinity,1.019 is very low,Natural seawater(NSW) is 1.026,i feel there's absoloutely no reason why we shouldn't keep our tanks at anything less.#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
