Alright since I have decided on the biocube as the tank for my build, I have decided that I will use roughly 25 lbs. of live sand, and up to 40 lbs. of dry rock, (have over 150 lbs. to choose from, old tank). I will have 2 hydor koralia 240s (with a wave-maker) , a protein skimmer, and a U.v. sterilizer. I think I will need to upgrade the lighting in order to possibly house an anemone and some LPS. I would like to have LED lighting but would like to keep the cost down as much as possible but would also like to have the ability to have an anemone and LPS.
If there is something that I am missing that is needed or something that I could improve on (ie. lighting ) I would love suggestions, thanks.
I think you might find 40# of rock in a 29g a tad much. Unless you like a lotta rock Sounds like the makings of a nice setup. Check with
@jimsflies
about LED's. He too has a 29g with the DIY LED's.
I have raised a clam and lots of LPS in T5s. The 6 39W bulbs in my ~56G display gives about 4 watts per gallon. Though, it does warm up a little much in the summer (having a closed lid). I run a little 6" fan across the top on the warmer days to compensate. The LEDs would probably improve things, but I just thought you should know that you don't HAVE TO have the more expensive lighting for those critters. I even have a few sticks that seem to be growing, maintaining color, etc in that lighting.
