The algae was gone... for about a week. It came back. Tuesday I noticed it growing on the sand, so I went lights out for 3 days, hoping to see an improvement today.

I did add a couple fish and a shrimp last Sunday, I added a sail fin tang, a flame angel, and finally a blood shrimp, all are doing well so far. The Flame is eating well, the sail fin is a big. LOL

The next issue, with this tank it seems there is always something.... is pH. I am really struggling to keep it at 8. I am going to confirm my pH probe reading with a liquid test later today.

dKh is on the high side, I am at 11. Ca test is next up, but I have not know Ca to affect pH directly like Alk does. Something is certainly out of whack.

Personally I wouldn't fret to much over your ph. Let your ALK drop on its own.

Ca Tested out at 440, so Alk and Ca are both high, but in balance.

With your Alk at 11 Dkh I am not surprised that your Ph is unstable. Not the end of the world as Miz says ,stop doaseing and it will come down, but high and low Alk will effect the buffering ability or Ph of your water column. What is your mag at. Not only does Mag keep your 2 part solution from bonding low levels will make Algae breakouts more unpredictable and also allow calcium build up in your pumps. Just my .02 tho

Your .02 is worth at least a Quarter Chuck.

I have not been dosing 2 part for a while, once I got the Kalk reactor running right. The coralline algae really likes the higher dKh! I've noticed growth tips on the stag, and pink lemonade, so maybe chasing the pH isn't a great idea, I am really trying to make up for lost time due to that crap.

Coralline and growth is all good!! If you let it come down some I think the Ph will fall inline. I know on our system when the Ph starts to climb it usually means the Salinty has creeped due to the 2 part doaseing. Either way sounds like over all it's going pretty good!

I think you are right Tom, I'll have to dig the camera out soon.

Documentation post, today I cleaned the skimmer, changed the Phoguard, and went from carbon to SeaChem's synthetic product, Purigen.

I also did a 25 gallon water change.
