how you can not notice something in your tank long enough for it to grow to this size.

I found that bugger when I was doing a bed-check after lights out. I was checking to see how my pod population was doing and I see this cretin moving around under some live rock. I pulled the live rock out from the tank and it took me about 15 minutes of waiting before it crawled from the hole it was wedged in. I put it into a bowl and had to take some pictures.

I'm assuming that it's a safe bet that these aren't the types of crabs that people WANT in their tank. Right now the little bugger (it's about 2" spread out) is in a plastic cup that I put into the refuge. If it gets out, it's either in the refuge for good, or it ends up on the floor and my cats get a treat.

Here's a pic of when I plunked it into the cup and it landed upside down...

I'd guess that's a refuge critter too.. great pics though.

......at least until he grows big enough to need some butter

I was leaning towards introducing it to the sewage district where I live. Then again, it'll grow to gargantuan size, break out of the sewer and terrorize the city.....
