it was 2 to 1 ratio for reducing nitrates and the like in the water. Now on your roots are you getting upward shooting roots? If so then you have a red mangrove. if not then it is a black mangrove. the red mangroves grow pneumataphores these are like a snorkel root that increases intake.

Actually they sort of came out in all directions.... maybe we've got the zebra flavored ones :D But I get extra credit for spelling 'botanist' right (confirmed by the spell check of course).

they are rooted down pretty good now so I'd rather not disturb them too much, but I might take a peek if ones loose enough.

yeah I went through and re read and it said you need approx a 2 to 1 ratio to see any significant diff in the nitrate and phosphate levels. the uptake is a lot slower than your algaes. but they sure are neat to look at. I wanted to do one or two in a brackish tank and get an archerfish.

Angel did most of our research and found they are more native to inland fresh waters, but can live in SW just as well (provided the leaves are rinsed of salt creep regularly).

I'd say put the brackish tank up and try it... what's the worst thing that could happen? You get tired of it and salt it up more and turn it into a reef with Mangroves? LOL

Eventually the goal is to grow these guys up tall enough to decorate around the spa, wether that will actually happen remains to be seen, but in the mean time they are just doing their thing.
